I studied Control and Automation Engineering at the Federal University of Ouro Preto. During my first internship working with home automation systems, I noticed something interesting: most of the support calls we received were about people struggling to use, set up, or connect their Alexa devices.
As an engineer, the technology made perfect sense to me. But watching kids and elderly users get frustrated with what should be simple interactions made me realize there was a bigger problem to solve. We were building technically solid systems that people found difficult to actually use.
This got me curious about the human side of technology. I wanted to understand not just how things work, but how people think and behave when they interact with them. That curiosity led me to apply for a scholarship program in UX/UI Product Design, where I could combine my technical background with user-centered design methods.
My thesis on improving Alexa's accessibility became the perfect bridge between these worlds - using engineering thinking to create better human experiences.
